Many inspectors avoid Planar DR panels for sector imaging because the ISO7636-2:2022 calculations look complicated. But here’s the truth:
- Planar panels don’t need a huge number of sectors. They perform really well in practice (see below!)
- With the new PXR Studio update, sector calculation is now built in for Flexible and Planar panels, making it easier to plan inspections and choose the right panel
- A small focal spot makes all the difference. With the PXR GEN160-09, you get just 0.9 mm, ensuring sharp, uncompromised images
Below we’ve made a calculation on a few typical pipe sizes, comparing 4 different panels and the number of sectors required. Calculation is for minimum number of sectors required by ISO17636-2:2022, using the DWSI method. Sector overlaps are not considered.
In short, the key factor is image area: the longer the image, the fewer sectors you need. In this case, the Alpha 25GF (Planar) performs especially well thanks to its 300 mm image length.
At Pexraytech, we keep inspectors in focus by building tools that cut through complexity and make everyday work easier.
